About
In May 1982, two children playing on the bank at the south edge of a hollow way, Mill Lane, made a startling discovery when they found a skull. This skull was later identified as the first of 120 burials that formed part of an Anglo-Saxon cemetery at Norton, Cleveland. Subsequent investigations, which took place over the course of 1984, and 1985, revealed a significant and unique archaeological site that has since provided a wealth of information about the burial customs, material culture, and religious beliefs of the time. The artifacts and remains uncovered at the site continue to be of great interest to archaeologists and historians, offering a fascinating glimpse into a society that existed in Anglo-Saxon England.
We invite you to explore some of these finds.
