Cast copper alloy annular brooch, a flat ring plain on the underside, but decorated on the front with punched semi-circles and occasional pairs of incised grooves. There is a small round perforation for a pin and some textile remains adhering to the brooch.

Cruciform Brooch
Grave 1 find 5 Small cast copper alloy cruciform brooch with a section of foot missing. Brooch has wings either side of the central headplate panel, three half round knobs and simple faceted decoration. Bow is simple and footplate is plain with traces of a collar bellow which is broken. On back there is a simple spring coil and catchplate, but no pin present. The thread is evidence for the brooch being sewn onto a dress or shroud cloth Faint traces of mineralised textile also occurs on bow

Square-Headed Cruciform Brooch

‘Square-headed’ cruciform brooch with part of the foot missing. Cast in one piece; the break at the foot has been made in antiquity, as the edges are worn and corroded over, though not filed. The iron pin survives in two pieces and there is no textile evidence.
